Momauk Parish
Momauk Parish is located (10) miles away from Banmaw (Bhamo) town, and it is one of four administrative townships in Kachin State. Created upon the arrival of Columban Missionary, Fr. Patrick Usher in name, who started the mission in 1943 with only six families, Momauk Parish is one of the oldest local church in the Diocese. Fr. Dennis McClindon was the first parish priest of Momauk who administered the local community in 1945, and till now, (16) priests had served the parish.
The Sisters of Franciscan Missionary of Mary (FMM) were invited by Fr. Gerald O’Brein to help the mission and pastoral needs of the people, and Sr. Nathalie Gawlu Kaw Lum, Sr. Delhode Nangzing Kai and Sr. Mary Zinghtung Lu arrived on July 5, 1970. By this time, there have already been (43) FMM Sisters from their first arrival.
The early missionary work of Columban Priests and FMM Sisters had been blessed, and the first six christian families multiplied and increased to (724) families with total number of (3,829) catholic faithful. It has (9) communities at different parts (villages) of the parish and (23) Catechists are living with them.
